For the 2023 model year, Toyota is giving the  Corolla  a facelift – with a fresh look and revised drives. The compact bestseller is available in three different body styles: as a five-door, as a Touring Sports station wagon and as a sedan. However, this is not currently offered in Germany. In the second half of 2022, the Corolla Cross will be followed by an SUV variant of the compact.

The LED headlights , which have been given a new light graphic, are particularly noticeable at the front . The slightly sharper radiator grille comes with a new pattern, and there will also be three new colors. The black roof and the hinted rear diffuser look a bit sportier, the exhaust trims, which were previously chrome, disappear with the facelift.

Inside, the Corolla has a more modern look with new graphics and trim. Altered embossing patterns give the upholstery and surfaces a three-dimensional depth. The new 10.5-inch central display shows the user interface in high resolution, functions and upgrades can be installed via over-the-ari updates. New and improved assistance systems are designed to make driving even safer.

Greater efficiency thanks to new full hybrid technology

On the engine side, there will still be the 1.8 and 2.0 liter hybrid variants. But these are equipped with the latest full hybrid technology from Toyota . The Japanese promise more torque, more electrical power and greater efficiency.

The new 10.5-inch central display sits enthroned on the center console. New functions can be installed with over-the-air updates.

The total output of the 1.8 engine is now 140 hp , so it breaks the 100 mark in 9.2 seconds – 1.7 seconds faster than before. The performance of the two-liter unit climbs to 196 hp , which makes the sprint to 100 km/h around half a second faster in 7.5 seconds.
Sales of the revised Corolla will start in 2022, and the first models will hit dealerships at the end of January 2023. Toyota is not revealing anything about the prices at the moment, it currently starts at 27,550 euros.

The Solar Vehicle “Lightyear 0” charges itself via solar cells

Drive through everyday life with solar energy? This idea should become reality with the Lightyear 0 in 2022. The Dutch start-up relies on its own drive concept and would rather shine with the performance data with range than with acceleration values. The Lightyear 0 can be ordered now, and production is scheduled to start in autumn 2022 in Uusikaupunki, Finland.

A range of 560 km with a consumption of 10.5 kWh per 100 km and a speed of 110 km/h – the efficiency of the vehicle plays a decisive role in this data. Looking at the shape of the car, it is immediately clear: the aerodynamicists were in charge here.
The Lightyear looks like it is made of one piece and does without beads and edges in the sheet metal. This ensures a particularly calm air flow and thus less air resistance. The drag coefficient of the e-car is therefore below 0.19. A maximum range of up to 625 kilometers should be possible according to WLTP.

The interior of the Lightyear is bright and can accommodate up to five people. Here’s a look at the previous concept vehicle “Lightyear One”.

With these values, performance only plays a minor role. From zero to 100 km/h, the electric sedan needs a smooth ten seconds, at 160 km/h it’s over.

Plenty of interior space

The design is very reminiscent of the Mercedes EQXX study , only that Lightyear showed its vehicle to the public in 2021 and could therefore have served as inspiration for the Swabians. The start-up does without active aerodynamics, instead of door handles there are only buttons. The rear wheel arches are partially covered, but the cover can optionally be omitted.
With a length of around 5.08 meters and a width of 1.97 meters, the Lightyear 0 is not really suitable as a city car. There should be room for up to five people and their luggage can be accommodated in a 640 liter trunk.

The dimensions at a glance:

• Length: 5083 mm
• Width: 1972 mm
• Height: 1445 mm
• Curb weight: 1575 kg
• Trunk volume: 640 liters

Four individual motors and 60 kWh battery capacity

Four wheel hub motors drive the Lightyear 0. This clearly differentiates the e-car from its competitors, who mostly rely on one motor per axle. A sophisticated engine control system is designed to ensure that the torque distribution is always adjusted. The Dutch company specifies the battery size as 60 kWh, and the battery pack is said to weigh around 350 kilograms.

As with the “Lightyear One” concept, the roof line of the Lightyear 0 flows smoothly and elegantly into the rear. Clearly recognizable: the solar cells.

Solar cells on the vehicle roof

The power storage can be replenished with 3.7 kW at home, with 22 kW at public charging stations and with up to 60 kW at the fast charger. But that is not always necessary – because Lightyear relies on a large number of solar cells on the vehicle, which should give the Lightyear 0 a range of up to 70 km per day under ideal conditions. That means: no matter whether the car is driving or standing in front of the office, the battery is constantly being charged on sunny days.

High price, start of production in autumn 2022

The Lightyear 0 is available to order now. But the price still has it all: The e-car costs at least 250,000 euros, an optional paint finish costs another 5,000 euros. Production of the Lightyear 0 will start in autumn 2022.

NEWS ABOUT FORMULA E 2022: EVANS WINS IN INDONESIA

For a long time, the British sports car brand and racing team McLaren toyed with the idea of being involved in Formula E, and in 2022 the decision was made to get involved from 2023. The Brits will take over the outgoing Mercedes team. While Mercedes Formula E boss Ian James continues his role at McLaren, there is still a question mark among the drivers. Reigning champion Nyck de Vries will primarily focus on a possible Formula 1 cockpit, while keeping Stoffel Vandoorne seems more realistic. The Belgian knows McLaren well and drove for the team from Woking in Formula 1 from 2017 to 2018. It is also unclear who will provide the drive technology from 2023. She will probably not come from her own house. McLaren already has a well-stocked portfolio with Formula 1, Indycar and Extreme

NEWS ABOUT FORMULA 1 2022: VERSTAPPEN WINS IN BAKU; AUDI & PORSCHE EXPLORE F1 ENTRY & CONSEQUENCES OF THE UKRAINE WAR

  • The board of directors and supervisory board of Volkswagen AG, Porsche AG and Audi AG have taken a big step towards Formula 1 for Audi and PorscheA spokesman confirmed “planning of the two group brands for a possible entry into Formula 1”, reports the DPA news agency. Audi “basically has the opportunity to enter the premier class of motorsport in 2026”. However, nothing has been decided yet, because you are “in the final phase of the evaluation”. Preliminary talks about the future regulations have already taken place with delegations from both brands. Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen have already commented positively on the news, welcoming the prospects of Audi and Porsche in Formula 1

In an emergency meeting on February 24, 2022, the teams, the FIA and Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali decided to cancel the Russian GP, which was due to take place on September 25, 2022, with reservations. The public announcement reads “Formula 1 is visiting countries all over the world with a positive vision of uniting people, bringing nations together. We are saddened and shocked by the developments in Ukraine and hope for a speedy and peaceful resolution of the current situation.” . And: “On Thursday evening, Formula 1, the FIA and the teams discussed our sport’s stance on this and came to the conclusion, which agrees with the view of all relevant stakeholders, that it is impossible to host the Russian Grand Prix under the current circumstances .” The statement leaves room for the possibility of holding the Grand Prix in Sochi should the “circumstances” change. Even before the conditional cancellation of the Russian GP, Sebastian Vettel reacted to the Russian attack on Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

In a press conference, the Heppenheimer announced that he did not want to take part in the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi. “I’ve made my decision and I won’t go. That would be wrong,” said the four-time world champion. Max Verstappen, who sat next to Vettel at the announcement, also shares his colleague’s opinion. Formula 1 is a popular instrument of Russian President Putin, who has often accompanied the award ceremony. The Ukraine war is also reflected in another decision: Following the split from Nikita Mazepin and his sponsor Uralkali, Formula 1 team Haas has secured Kevin Magnussen for 2022 and beyond.

The Dane drove for the US racing team from 2017 to the end of 2020 and will now start alongside Mick Schumacher. As a result, Magnussen brings a lot of experience to the table, while also acting as an indicator of Mick’s learning curve. His Russian predecessor, Mazepin, flew during the Ukraine war because his father owned a multi-billion dollar fertilizer company that was in President Vladimir Putin’s inner circle.

The US Air Force officially launched the 65th Aggressor Squadron equipped with the F-35 Lightning II at Nellis Air Force Base on Thursday, June 9, 2022. The 65th Aggressor Squadron under the 57th Wing, which was an F-15 aggressor squadron from 2005 to 2014, has been revived by introducing the latest model.

The reorganization of the unit aims to improve the skill to respond to the threat of the US Air Force, and will carry out training assuming a suitable role to own a 5th generation fighter. The equipment used is the F-35 Lightning II owned by the US Air Force, and is assumed to be a 5th generation fighter in China or Russia. At the inauguration ceremony, an aircraft with a white design reminiscent of the J-20 (Shin 20), a fifth-generation Chinese fighter, was exhibited with a different paint than the normal F-35.

The formation of the aggressor unit with the 5th generation fighter is new, especially with the development of the J-20 and J-31 of the 5th generation fighter in China, and the development of the 6th generation. The US Air Force explains that the threat needs to be addressed. The U.S. Air Force plans to use some of the equipment of the 5th generation that is being introduced, and to carry out training to improve the response ability while professionally analyzing the movement of the enemy.

This 5th generation fighter aggressor squadron will be decided from 2019 based on the U.S. Air Force and other regulations and laws to improve training content aimed at supporting tactical development, large-scale troop training, and operational testing. , Has led to the formation.
